Year 1 Character strengths
Character strengths explored in Year 1 are: love, humour, honesty, curiosity, kindness
Select and discuss a character strength per week. Then students write down on sticky notes when they demonstrate this character strength and put it on the display in the classroom.
Students identify their own character strengths.
In groups, students watch short youtube clips about one of the characters below. (Approximately 10 minutes)
The then spend time identifying the characters strengths. Students have to explain why they have identified that strength in this character.
The students then focus on what that character needs to work on (or a goal)
Why have they chosen that goal for the character? What evidence have they got, that this character needs to work on this?
Design some steps for this character to try and achieve the above goal.
Students identify character strengths of famous people eg. Barack Obama, Michael Phelps, Jackie Chan, Leung Chun Ying, Dr Brown etc. Give evidence to support their reasons.
What are Dynamos?
Dynamos are tiny, powerful beings from the planet Dynamis. They each possess a unique character strength known as a Dynamic and carry a Supertool that amplifies their strength. There are 24 Dynamos in all.
What do you get?
Included in this download are front-and-back Dynamo flashcards: These cards show you the Dynamo and an enlarged version of their Supertool on separate pages. Print the pages out, place them back-to-back so the Dynamo is paired with their Supertool. Then cut out the quadrants, tape them together, and laminate them (optional!) to make your very own Dynamo cards. Result: 24 vertical, front/back flashcards.
Game ideas:
There are so many ways to use these Dynamo cards, included are just a few. These games can be played individually as well as in groups. Feel free to creatively modify the game based on your need.
Some useful ideas based on a specific set of cards. Could use RCHK cards though!
These stories have been developed to accompany the Character Strength Ideas Box which is in the Primary Office.
