Sometimes our minds are a lot like a Snow Globe when you shake it up. Using snow globes with children can help them focus on their breathing, focus on one thing and also calm them down.
To make a Snow Globe all you need is dishwashing liquid, a jar and some glitter. Add about 2 teaspoons of glitter and about 2 teaspoon of dishwashing liquid (or one or two pumps) and fill the jar up with water. Put the lid on tight and give it a shake!
You can either have one for the whole class to use or each child could make their own.
Here are some simple exercises for using snow globes:
1. Shake the globe and put your hands on your stomach, count how many breaths it takes for all of the glitter to settle.
2. Shake the globe and try to follow one piece of glitter.
3. Shake the globe and breathe. Shake it as many times as you need until you feel calm.
4. Discuss how your mind feels after the exercise.
Use a collection of objects with inspirational words on them (see example below). These could be stones, plastic animals, lolly sticks in a pot - something that people can select. In this case, we used ducks.
Choose an object to get a word to reflect on, or to set an intention for the day.
